The OMB Proposed Risk Assessment Bulletin, produced in January this year the US Office of Management and Budget, could usher in a new regime in environmental and health regulation. If its proposals are largely intact when it is implemented, some US government decisions will be subjected to formal risk assessment for the first time, and others will be handled using more up-to-date methodology. Colin Macilwain reports.
