These orbs of blue and red are the planet Venus, as seen by the European spacecraft Venus Express during its cruise into orbit. The composite images are among the first data transmitted from the craft, whose initial results will be discussed at a meeting of the Scientific Assembly of the Committee on Space Research (COSPAR), which convenes on 16 July in Beijing.
