Epistolatory addition
The New York based publishing house Basic Books began its Art of Mentoring series in 2001. Early titles included Letters to a Young Lawyer and Letters to a Young Contrarian. (One of those was by Christopher Hitchens; no prizes.) Now the list has reached the sciences, and first up is Letters to a Young Mathematician, by the prolific popularizer Ian Stewart. Our reviewer, Rhian Parker, is not too far removed from the hypothetical 17-year-old recipient of Stewart's advice.
