Product enantiomeric excess expressed as a fraction of that obtained using enantiopure amino acid versus amino acid enantiomeric excess in the aldol reaction of equation (1) carried out in N,N-dimethylformamide (DMF) at ambient temperature using serine (circles), leucine (down triangles), alanine (uptriangles), valine (diamonds), and threonine (squares). Percentage product ee values found for the enantiopure catalysts are given.
