Background Information
Early humans were living in Britain as much as 700,000 years ago, according to research in this week’s Nature. A newly discovered collection of stone tools in East Anglia has shown that human activity was present in Northern Europe 200,000 years earlier than scientists thought. This work challenges the current understanding of how humans moved from Southern Europe to colonise areas of Northern Europe – including the UK.
