A theory of everything
It's been said, by physicists, that "everything is physics". But where is the physics to explain the nature of, or even the existence of, football matches or jumbo-jet aircraft? And physics theory has nothing to say about the intentionality that produces objects, from office blocks to teaspoons. Mathematician George F. R. Ellis takes a break from work on relativity and cosmology to ask if physicists can go that extra mile.
Essay: Physics, complexity and causality
Although the laws of physics explain much of the world around us, we still do not have a realistic description of causality in truly complex hierarchical structures.
