Molecular motors:  Smooth coupling in Salmonella

Bacteria such as Salmonella typhimurium move by the action of their flagella. Depending on the direction of rotation, flagella either act singly, causing uncoordinated tumbling, or clump together into a single helical propeller for straight-line swimming.
