Satellite loss throws Japan's space programme into disarray

Japan's space agency is facing tough questions this week after the unexplained loss of Midori-II, one of the nation's most ambitious scientific satellites to date.Shuichiro Yamanouchi, president of the newly revamped Japan Aerospace Exploration Agency (JAXA), declared the Earth observation probe lost for good on 31 October, a week after it stopped sending signals home.
