Abstract
Quantum fluctuations at absolute zero may push a system into a different phase or state. The 'quantum critical point' at which this happens in certain materials has now been probed in greater detail.
More than a century of probing the physics of magnetism has only served to heighten its interest for physicists. Over the past decade, a new focus has evolved — the behaviour of magnetic materials at a 'quantum critical point'.
