Animal experiments: The great primate debate
Abstract
When can invasive experiments on monkeys or apes be justified? And what would be the consequences for biomedical research if they were to cease? Sally Goodman and Erika Check pose some difficult questions.
There can be few more emotive issues in science than experimentation on our fellow primates. To the researchers involved, such research is vital for continued scientific progress against killers such as HIV and Alzheimer's disease.
