Smithsonian rocked by high-level departure

Unease among researchers at the Smithsonian Institution in Washington DC, the world's largest museum complex, deepened last week with the announcement that Dennis O'Conner, its undersecretary for science, will be departing.O'Conner, who is also the acting director of the National Museum of Natural History, will become vice-president of research at the University of Maryland at College Park.
