Author of anti-encryption program faces jail

A Russian graduate student in computer science faces criminal charges for encryption violations this week in the United States, after his arrest at a computer conference.The arrest on 16 July in Las Vegas, Nevada, of Dmitry Sklyarov, a doctoral student at the Moscow State Technical University, is the latest clash between authorities and computer scientists concerning US laws involving encryption technology and media interests.
