Biological catalysis: Repopulating the RNA world

We will probably never be certain how life on our planet began. But, thanks to a new laboratory study, the possibility of an ancient 'RNA world' appears more plausible.

In life as we know it, the tasks of storing genetic information and of copying it for transfer to subsequent generations are clearly divided. Nucleic acids encode the information, and proteins replicate it.
