Place the Scienceware Spindrive Orbital Shaker Platform onto any standard magnetic stirrer and the rotation of the stirrer will activate the orbital motion of the shaker platform. Speed adjustment is accomplished using the speed setting on the magnetic stirrer. The Spindrive Platform uses no electricity or batteries, only magnetic power. The Spindrive Orbital Shaker Platform is 225 mm square with a rotating orbit diameter of 21.7 mm. The economical, compact design saves bench-top workspace. The platform also features a non-skid surface to prevent samples from falling off.

The LD Column completes the range of separation columns from Miltenyi Biotec for magnetic cell separation. Each column type is optimized for a certain range of total cells and magnetically labelled cells. MACS LD columns are optimized for convenient depletion of virtually any cell type. Starting from up to 5 times 108 total cells, a maximum of 1 times 108 cells can be depleted. Cells are magnetically labelled with MACS MicroBeads and the cell suspension is passed over the LD Column and washed. Highly pure cell populations are collected as effluent. The manufacturers claim that a depletion efficiency of up to 3 log can be achieved. The flow stop LD Columns, which don't require any additional equipment such as 3-way stop cocks or flow resistors, show a consistent flow rate and are compatible with the MACS separators MidiMACS, Vario-MACS and SuperMACS.

The MagnaBot Magnetic Separation Device is designed for high-throughput bioseparation using magnetic particles such as Promega's MagneSil paramagnetic particles. MagnaBot is compatible with various instrument platforms including the Beckman BioMek 2000 Laboratory Automation Workstation, and with 96-well plates including Dynatech 001-010-2701 V-bottom and Costar 43119 Deep Well. It has been successfully used in protocols for plasmid and PCR product purification. The device is built for ease of use: a plastic 96-well microtitre plate is placed over the 96-well magnet such that each of the 24 magnetic pins resides in the interstices between four wells. The neodymium iron boron magnets attract the magnetic silica or particles to the side and away from the bottom of each well in seconds, allowing the removal of particle-free fluid.

MPG particles bind immunoglobulins from various species, including mouse, human, rabbit, rat, goat and sheep primary antibodies. MPG secondary antibody particles eliminate centrifugation for easy scale-up and automation, and give flexibility in assay configuration. MPG secondary antibody particles can be used for immuno-assays, separation of unbound labelled tracers, small-scale immunoaffinity purification and immunoprecipitation reactions.

GX-1 is a full-featured 16-channel instrument offering continuous recording at bandwidths up to 200 kHz per channel. It is suitable for any mobile, multi-channel application such as automotive, off-road vehicles, military and other test applications where portability and absolute data integrity and accuracy are required. Using the internal 256-MB DRAM as a buffer, it can be used as a front-end for a PC, downloading via a fast SCSI-2 interface. A 100-mul, pH 2.8 buffer sample can be converted to pH 9.4 dialysing against a litre of bicarbonate buffer, pH 9.4, in less than 10 minutes — some 'home-made' devices might take several hours. The Mini Units are made with low protein and nucleic-acid-absorbing regenerated cellulose membranes in 3.5K, 7K or 10K molecular-weight cutoffs in packs of 50 or economically 250 units.

Produced by Guilfoyle, Inc., of Belmont, Massachusetts (tel. 617-489-5007), the Bio-Ferrograph 2100 uses cell-capture cytometry to capture cells with one-cell-in-a-million selectivity and sensitivity, and since only disposable cassettes and syringes contact the samples it eliminates cross-contamination. The user simply incubates each sample with an appropriate monoclonal antibody conjugated to submicrometre magnetic particles, then adds the samples to reservoirs on the instrument and selects a program. Fitted with five 1-ml sample reservoirs, the Bio-Ferrograph 2100 can process a 0.3-ml sample in each reservoir within 20 minutes. The selected cells are available on a glass slide for observation and the cells from five samples can be deposited simultaneously within bracketed areas on a single slide. Providing a short processing flow path, cells can be captured from whole blood samples without removing the red blood cells.
