Abstract
The spectacular US forest fires should be a stimulus to improving the management of the ecosystems in the American west.
This summer's news that 70 major fires are burning out of control in the western United States is a familiar story that gets increasingly worse with each passing year. Four million acres have been lost to fire so far this year.
