High-temperature superconductivity: Stripes defeat the Fermi liquid

J. Zaanen

Some 50 years ago, profound insights were obtained into the nature of the metallic and superconducting states of electrons in solids. According to Fermi-liquid theory, electrons in ordinary metals can be viewed as a non-interacting electron gas.
