Palaeoclimatology: Out of Africa

A persistent and misleading myth is that climate variability has been minimal during the Holocene period, the present-day 'interglacial' that goes back 11,500 years. Striking evidence that this is not the case comes with the appearance of the paper by Verschuren et al. page 410 of this issue1.
