Methane combustion: Durable catalysts for cleaner air

There is great interest in using methane as an alternative to coal and oil, because its high ratio of hydrogen to carbon means it can generate power with fewer greenhouse-gas emissions. But methane combustion requires high temperatures (greater than 1,300 °C) to maintain a stable flame.
