Kansas evolution ban under attack
Two professional biology organizations have added their voices to criticisms of the decision by the Kansas Board of Education to eliminate the teaching of evolution from the school science curriculum (see Nature 400, 701; 1999).The board of directors of the American Institute of Biological Sciences has issued a statement describing the decision as "unfortunate", and saying that it "serves only to prevent students from acquiring a comprehensive understanding of modern biology".
