Senate baulks at cost of collider project

The US Senate is moving to abandon the Next Linear Collider (NLC), a 30-kilometre long accelerator that high-energy physicists would like to build in the United States as their next major experiment after Europe's Large Hadron Collider.The move follows a finding by the Department of Energy that the project could cost as much as $7.
