Obituary:  Alan Hodgkin (1914-98)

Trevor Lamb1

Alan Hodgkin, who died on 20 December 1998, was one of the greatest physiologists of the century. He set the foundations for much of modern neuroscience by explaining the origin of the nerve impulse, in an enormously productive collaboration with Andrew Huxley.

  1. Trevor Lamb is in the Department of Physiology, University of Cambridge, Downing Street, Cambridge CB2 3EG, UK.
