Industrial research booms in US, despite job cuts at large labs

Despite the demise of the corporate research laboratory, industrial science in the United States is enjoying a resurgence, say research managers. It is being backed by Wall Street investors prepared to support long-term research that is on a par with the best work being done at universities and in rival companies.
