Kyoto agreement creates new agenda for climate research

Last week's adoption of the 'Kyoto protocol' on climate change has been welcomed by climate scientists as "a step in the right direction" as they prepare to respond to the challenges arising from the conference.Having already played an important role in the run-up to the protocol's adoption, the scientific advisory bodies to the conference have been asked to provide solutions to two immediate challenges.
