Science board seeks priority agreement

The US National Science Board (NSB) has harshly criticized the way that science policy is established in the US government, and called for a dialogue between interested parties to establish procedures for setting scientific priorities and coordinating science-related activities across government.According to several officials, the recommendations of the NSB — a group of senior mainly academic scientists appointed by the president, primarily to run the National Science Foundation — amount to a rebuke for the White House Office of Science and Technology Policy (OSTP), which is responsible for such coordination.
