Taxonomy and control of Salvinia molesta

P. A. Thomas & P. M. Room

Project coordinators of the PNG/UNDP/FAO Salvinia Control Project, PO Box 495, Wewak, Papua New Guinea; present address: 8 Sadlers Court, Mattock Way, Abingdon OX14 2PA, UK.
CSIRO Division of Entomology, Private Bag No. 3, Indooroopilly, Queensland 4068, Australia.

Outside of its native South America, salvinia is one of the world's worst aquatic weeds. Conventional control is prohibitively expensive, but now biological control using a beetle has become a reality.
