Direct measurement of long range forces between two mica surfaces in aqueous KNO3 solutions

Abstract

WE have constructed an apparatus for measuring the forces between two surfaces immersed in a liquid directly as a function of separation, and report initial results for the forces between two crossed cylindrical sheets of molecularly smooth muscovite mica in aqueous solutions of KNO3.
