Identification of the Predicted Blood Group Antibody Anti-Ytb

CAROLYN M. GILES & M. N. METAXAS

Medical Research Council Blood Group Reference Laboratory, London.
Swiss Research Council Blood Transfusion Centre, Zurich.

EATON et al. 1 described a new blood group antibody, anti-Yta, which reacted with a very high proportion of blood samples (99.6 per cent) by the anti-human globulin technique. The antibody was shown to distinguish between homozygous Yt a Yt b samples and heterozygous Yt a Yt a samples by giving a dosage effect, and so it was possible to estimate the gene frequencies of both Yt a (93.8 per cent) and the postulated Yt b (6.2 per cent).
