Inter-graft Transmission of Cytoplasmic Male Sterility M. K. CORBETT & J. R. EDWARDSON Plant Virus Laboratory, Plant Pathology and Agronomy Departments, Agricultural Experiment Stations, University of Florida, Gainesville. GRAFT transmission of cytoplasmic male sterility in Petunia 1–3 has many similarities to graft transmission of plant viruses3. As yet, however, the entity responsible for the sterility has not been isolated or identified. In this communication, we report results of investigations in which the male sterility factor was transmitted by grafting from Petunia through stems of a tobacco plant to Petunia and the failure of the factor to induce male sterility in tobacco itself.
