Constituents of Dental Calculus from Sheep

AUGUSTA UNMACK & S. L. ROWLES

Chemical Laboratory, Royal Veterinary and Agricultural College, Copenhagen.
Medical Research Council External Staff, School of Dental Surgery, Birmingham.

WHILE the crystalline composition of dental calculus in man is well elucidated, very little is known about such calculus in animals. We have had the opportunity of comparing the results of X-ray diffraction examinations of samples of dental calculus from sheep from Dundee, Scotland, and from Greenland. Powder diagrams were taken with copper Kalpha-radiation in cameras of the Guinier type.
