Modification of the Growth-rate of Sarcoma-37 during Culture

THERE has been a conflict of opinion in the past as to whether tumour cells are altered in their biological properties when grown in contact with the chick embryo. Some workers have contended that an experience with the avian embryo does not provoke any readily recognizable transformation in the tumour cells1–3, while others4,5 take the opposing view. The present experimental work was designed to evaluate the effect of culture on one type of tumour (sarcoma-37) in several ways on one biological characteristic of the cells, namely, their growth potential.
