Chain Transfer in Mixed Solvent Systems

Abstract

CHAIN transfer for solvents1–4in addition polymerization has attracted much attention, but scarcely any attempt has been made so far to determine the chain-transferring capacities of those substances which are immiscible in the monomer (say, water) or substances insoluble in the monomer, for example, such polymers as polyacrylonitrile. In the present work an attempt has been made to determine the transfer constants for such substances, keeping the whole system homogeneous in the presence of a third component.
