GODFREY HAROLD HARDY, who died at Cambridge on December 1, 1947, was the creator of the English school of mathematical analysis and had been for more than a quarter of a century the leader of pure mathematicians in Great Britain. He was born on February 7, 1877, the son of Isaac Hardy, who was bursar and art master at Oanleigh School.
