Top

THE romance of the mythical ?North-West Passage? which inspired the hopes and fascinated the imaginations of the pioneer navigators of the sixteenth century and their successors for several generations thereafter, has had a curious and interesting sequel of recent years, culminating, after some hesitations and two changes of programme, in the approaching completion of a new commercial port and harbour on the western coast of Hudson Bay, forming the terminal of a branch railway line from the Winnipeg-Prince Albert section of the Canadian National Railways, and the contemplated inauguration of a regular service of steamers through Hudson Strait to the North Atlantic Ocean.
