For Authors

Submissions

This section contains information about submitting your article to Nature.

The instructions on this page refer to Articles, Letters, Reviews and Perspectives. Separate guidelines are available for Brief Communications Arising and for other types of submission.

We strongly advise you to read through Nature's manuscript formatting guide before submitting your manuscript. If you are ready to submit, please proceed directly to our online submission system.

Presubmission enquiries

This section contains our online service for presubmission enquiries. Presubmission enquiries may be made before a manuscript is complete, or before it is in Nature style to determine whether it is likely to be of interest to the journal. Presubmission enquiries are provided purely as a service to authors and are not compulsory.

Initial and revised submissions

This section contains guidelines for our online service for submission and tracking of manuscripts, as well as instructions if you have been asked to submit a revised version of your manuscript by a Nature editor. Please read Nature's manuscript formatting guide before using this service.

Final submissions (after acceptance)

This section contains guidelines for preparing your final submission (text, tables and figures), and applies only if your Article or Letter has been accepted in principle for publication and the editor has asked you for production-quality material.

Supplementary Information

Supplementary Information (SI) is peer-reviewed material directly relevant to the conclusion of a paper that cannot be included in the printed version for reasons of space or medium. This section includes information on SI categories and acceptable file formats, size constraints for individual files and how SI should be presented.
