About the Editors

Like the other Nature titles, Nature Metabolism has no external editorial board. Instead, all editorial decisions are made by a dedicated team of professional editors, with relevant research and editorial backgrounds.

Chief Editor: Dr. rer. nat., Christoph Schmitt, Springer Nature, Germany

Christoph joined Nature Research in 2010 as an editor for the Nature Reviews journals. In 2012, he moved to Nature Communications, where he managed a team of editors handling a broad range of biomedical and translational research, including metabolic research. Christoph became Chief Editor of Nature Metabolism in 2018 to prepare the journal for its launch in 2019. He is passionate about mentorship and about educating the next generation of scientists. Christoph studied pharmacy at Heidelberg University, holds a doctorate in pharmacy from the University of Vienna, and conducted postdoctoral work at University College London, investigating mitochondrial function and links between cellular energy metabolism and cell proliferation.

Senior Editor: Ashley Castellanos-Jankiewicz, PhD, Springer Nature, USA

Ashley joined Nature Metabolism in February 2021. With a background in human nutrition, she pursued a MSc in Fundamental Neuroscience from Maastricht University in order to explore the central mechanisms driving energy homeostasis. She then obtained her PhD in Neuroscience from the University of Bordeaux by studying the hypothalamic role of bile acids on energy balance in the context of obesity. Ashley is based in the New York office and you can follow her on Twitter @ash_castjan

Senior Editor: Alfredo Giménez-Cassina, PhD, Springer Nature, Germany

Alfredo joined Nature Metabolism in August 2021. He received his PhD in Biology from Universidad Autónoma de Madrid, developing neuroprotective strategies against mitochondrial dysfunction in the central nervous system. He then pursued postdoctoral studies at the Dana-Farber Cancer Institute, Boston, where he investigated metabolic checkpoints and their role in responses to pathophysiological stress. Alfredo led his own independent research group, first at Karolinska Institutet, Stockholm, and soon after at the Centro de Biología Molecular “Severo Ochoa”, Madrid, focusing on mechanisms that integrate cell signaling and metabolic flux in the central nervous system. He is based in the Berlin office. You can follow Alfredo on Twitter @CassinaAlfredo

Senior Editor: Dr. rer. nat., Yanina-Yasmin Pesch, Springer Nature, Germany

Yanina joined Nature Metabolism in March 2022. She obtained her PhD in Molecular Biomedicine from the University of Bonn, studying the hormonal control of growth and molting in Drosophila. She then pursued postdoctoral studies at the Life Sciences Institute, University of British Columbia, where she investigated cell differentiation, cell-cell communication and lipid metabolism in Drosophila spermatogenesis. Yanina is based in the Berlin office and you can find her on Twitter @YaninaPesch

Associate Editor: Revati Dewal, PhD, Springer Nature, Germany

Revati joined Nature Metabolism in November 2023. She completed her Ph.D. in Physiology and Cell Biology from The Ohio State University, studying adipose tissue and exercise as therapeutic strategies against cardiovascular and metabolic diseases. She then joined the Laboratory of Translational Nutritional Biology at ETH Zurich as a postdoctoral researcher to study the converging and diverging effects of age, diet and sex on adipose tissue cellular composition and function.
