Editorial Innovation

To ensure that every reader understands the findings and significance of each paper, all authors are asked to submit a short synopsis of their paper. This synopsis allows researchers to present key findings from complex data sets in a more accessible and succinct format. The in-house EMBO editorial team provides editorial expertise and support to ensure that each synopsis is as readable and useful as possible.

Technical innovation

Molecular Systems Biology is one of the most technically advanced journals available. Navigation of this intricate field is made simple and authors are given a forum to explain and expand on their research - providing supplementary data and interactive figures where appropriate. We strongly believe that our decision to accept papers in Systems Biology Mark-up Language (SBML), allowing integrated presentation of complex data sets, is a service of particular value.

Research is set free!

As systems biology requires the integration and co-ordination of many data sets, Molecular Systems Biology makes primary research freely available to all researchers worldwide, ensuring maximum dissemination of content. Research is published online on a weekly basis to provide timely communication to the community and keep publication times to a minimum. The cost of publication is met, in part, through an author charge - details are as follows:

The Americas: USD $3000 per article accepted
Rest of World: GDP £1700 per article accepted

Charges are waived for authors who can demonstrate that they are unable to bear the costs of publication or those from low-income countries.

A summary of author benefits:

  • Fast submission and review process
  • Research reaches the community in a timely manner
  • Guaranteed quality - peer review managed by top editors
  • Primary research is free to all - worldwide
  • Sophisticated online presentation - innovative formats, interactive figures
  • High readership visibility - nature.com hosting makes sure papers are noticed. Exceptional papers are press released
