About EMBO
The European molecular Biology Organization (EMBO) promotes biosciences in Europe. It does this through a number of activities that include organization of courses and workshops, provision of fellowships for long- and short-term visits to other laboratories and highlighting of young independent researchers of high quality. It supports the scientific community through the publication of Molecular Systems Biology, The EMBO Journal and EMBO reports, and through the lead it has taken in developing the E-BioSci and Life Sciences Mobility web-platforms. In addition, EMBO fosters open dialogues between scientists and non-scientists in a way that encourages dissemination of scientific expertise and that helps make Europe an attractive location for scientific research.
Today EMBO consists of more than 1100 distinguished and well-known European scientists, together with some 60 associated members world-wide. They include more than 30 Nobel Prize laureates. A staff of about35 persons coordinates the organization's activities at the EMBO headquarters on the EMBL campus in Heidelberg.
