Macrophage migration inhibitory factor (MIF) is expressed in neurogenic cells in the rodent dentate gyrus, where it plays a key roles in basal and antidepressant-stimulated adult hippocampal cell proliferation, as well as in memory and anxiety- and depression-like behaviors.
