The third edition of the Formulary for Laboratory Animals, compiled by Drs Hawk, Leary, and Morris, was recently released. This handbook is a most useful therapeutic reference guide for anyone involved in animal research. The text provides information on numerous analgesics, anesthetics, tranquilizers, antibiotics, and other drugs that may be used in course of animal research. The appendices include valuable information on bleeding sites, bleeding volumes and frequencies, and other relevant information on medicating virtually all of the common laboratory species. The handbook is fully indexed and referenced. We have used the previous versions of this book on a daily basis and recommend it enthusiastically.
