Left upper, embolized crospovidone appears as deeply basophilic coral-like particles associated with a foreign body giant cell reaction. The vascular lumen has been greatly restricted (H&E; original magnification, 160 times). Right upper, crospovidone (deep red) in a recanalized thromboembolus (mucicarmine; original magnification, 400 times). Left lower, intravascular crospovidone (yellow-orange particles) associated with recent thrombus, in muscular pulmonary artery (Movat pentachrome; original magnification, 250 times). Right lower, crospovidone (blue-green particles) and associated foreign body granuloma have partially destroyed the vascular elastica of a non-muscular pulmonary artery (Movat pentachrome; original magnification, 250 times).
