NINTH ANNUAL PRACTICAL PATHOLOGY AT WHISTLER

The Department of Pathology, University of British Columbia, will present a 3-day postgraduate course entitled Practical Pathology at Whistler. The guest faculty will be Dr. John K. C. Chan of Queen Elizabeth Hospital, Hong Kong and Dr. Bruce Wenig of Albert Einstein College of Medicine and Montefiore Medical Center, New York.

The objective of the course will be on improving skills and understanding of practical issues in anatomic pathology of relevance to practising pathologists. The guest faculty will discuss issues related to thyroid, hematolymphoid and head and neck pathology. Members of the UBC Department of Pathology faculty will discuss a wide variety of topics, including gastrointestinal, pulmonary and immunohistochemical pathology. Lectures will be the primary mode of instruction, supplemented by discussion periods, both formal and informal. Participants will receive a comprehensive syllabus covering all of the presented material.

The course has Category 1 accreditation for 12 hours CME credit by the American Medical Association. Registration fees for the course will be US$475.00 (US$300.00 for residents and fellows). Special rates available for members of the Canadian Association of Pathologists. The Department of Pathology, Massachusetts General Hospital, Harvard Medical School will present a four-day postgraduate course in Urologic Surgical Pathology under the direction of Robert H. Young, M.D. with faculty as listed below. The hotel is within a few minutes of the center of the attractive coastal town of Newport Beach and immediately adjacent to one of the largest shopping malls in the United States. The objective of this course is to provide a comprehensive review of urologic surgical pathology with special attention paid to common diagnostic problems such as prostate biopsy interpretation, recent advances and new entities. Instruction will be primarily by lecture, but will also include frequent discussion periods. Each participant will receive a comprehensive course syllabus.

The objective of this course is to provide an in-depth review of gynecologic and obstetric pathology with emphasis on morphologic diagnostic features and clinicopathologic correlation. Upon completion of this course, participants will be familiarized with recent advances in diagnosis and newly recognized entites. MAYO CLINIC'S 10TH INTERNATIONAL SURGICAL PATHOLOGY SYMPOSIUM

MAY 6–9, 2003

Description: This program will address common but difficult diagnostic problems encountered by surgical pathologists in every day practice. Designed to simulate daily activities of pathologists, the symposium curriculum will review case histories in identified subject matter areas, view slides microscopically and formulate appropriate diagnoses. Diagnosis, terminology and patient management strategies for each case history will be discussed by faculty and attendees.
