Unique mechanism of PVL-induced PMN apoptosis. Low PVL concentrations can induce apoptosis via a novel pathway that presumably involves PVL-mediated pore formation on the mitochondrial membrane leading to release of cytochrome c and induction of caspases 9 and 3.28
