Composite transverse section from the left lobe of a rat lung. This image was created from projections of individual z-series of overlapping adjacent areas of a 200 mum-thick section. Yellow–green fluorescent micropheres in agarose fill the pulmonary vasculature (green) and orange microspheres fill the bronchial circulation (red). The section was counter-stained with the nuclear dye To-Pro-3 (blue). Scale bar=200 mum.
