A sequential comparison of prevalence of mitosis (mitotic index) observed in two experimental groups of mice, treated with one injection of Hank's balanced salt solution (HBSS) and the high glucose concentration fluid. Peaks of mitosis observed at two and three hours after the intraperitoneal injection of the glucose-enriched solution are significantly higher than the corresponding values showed by the HBSS control group, as well as values seen in the control group of mice at zero time. Notice that 24 hours after the injection, the glucose-induced stimulation vanished (*P < 0.05; ***P < 0.001). Symbols are: () intact; () HBSS; (filled diamond) 4.25% glucose.
