Typical DRS spectrum of an erythematous lesion. Spectral data were obtained with a diffuse reflectance spectrometer from a skin site with a slight erythema normalized to a white standard. The spectrum is decomposed into its component spectra of oxyhemoglobin, deoxyhemoglobin, and melanin. Concentrations of each substance may be estimated from the individual contribution.
