UV survival. Appropriate numbers of cells were seeded on to 60 mm dishes. After UV irradiation at a fluence rate of 0.7 J per m2 per s, cells were incubated for 10–14 d, fixed with 80% methanol, and stained with Giemsa. Caffeine was added as indicated at a final concentration of 1 mM just after UV irradiation and the plates were incubated for 2–3 wk. Each point represents an average of three independent experiments; error bar, SEM. Cells utilized were: (a–d) Mori cells (square) a normal control. (a) GM02415B (triangle); XP82TO (filled circle). (b) XP43TO (filled circle); XP2SA (XPV) (circle); XP43TO 1 mM caffeine (filled triangle); XP2SA 1 mM caffeine (triangle). (c) XP89TO (filled circle); Nps8 (XPF) (circle). (d) XP24KO (filled circle); Kps3 (UVsS) (circle); Mps1 (CSA) (triangle).
