Blocking CXCR 4 inhibits progenitor cell migration out of neurospheres. Dil fluorescently labeled neurospheres derived from nonstroke subventricular zone (SVZ) cells were placed onto 7-day stroke brain slices in the presence (A) or absence (B) of a neutralizing antibody against CXCR 4. The presence of the antibody against CXCR 4 blocked progenitor cell migration out of neurospheres (A) compared with control counterparts (B, white arrows). Blue arrows in panel (A) indicate the neurosphere contour which did not change during 72 h in the culture.
