Inducible nitric oxide synthase and 3-nitrotyrosine immunoreactivity 24 h after IPC. Inducible nitric oxide synthase immunoreactivity is observed in 20- to 30-mum vessels with thick walls presumably arterioles (A, C), and 40- to 50-mum vessels with thinner walls, presumably venules (B). Nitrotyrosine immunoreactivity was observed in vessels of morphology and size similar to those expressing iNOS (E). Inducible nitric oxide synthase or nitrotyrosine immunoreactivity was absent in brain vessels of sham operated controls (D, F; arrows). Bar in A =50 mum.
