New ISN Treasurer appointed

Following the unexpected death of Steve Hebert, ISN has been seeking an appropriately skilled member to take on the responsibilities of the Society’s Treasurer. The Executive Committee and Council recently confirmed Dr. Victor L. Schuster, MD, Baumritter Professor at the Albert Einstein College of Medicine situated in the Bronx, New York as ISN’s new Treasurer.
Istanbul Declaration Sees Organ Transplantation Worldwide Threatened by Organ Trafficking and Transplant Tourism and Commercialism

Together with The Transplantation Society, ISN endorses the Declaration of Istanbul on Organ Trafficking and Transplant Tourism, an important affirmation of ethical principles and practices adopted on May 2, 2008, at an international summit of more than 150 healthcare professionals, officials, scientists, ethicists and legal scholars from 78 countries and 20 international organizations.

Pakistan: Cutting Down on 'Kidney Tourism'

Pakistan’s Transplantation of Human Organs and Human Tissue Ordinance 2007 mandates punitive measures for those who deal in organs or remove them improperly. More importantly, the ordinance explicitly bans the donation of organs to foreigners. Opportunities to donate organs to non-relatives are also curtailed.

Serdar Tegkul, MD, Committee Chair PARIS, FRANCE (UroToday.com) - Dr. Tegkul began by noting the difficulties in producing Level 1 data for the pediatric population, as it is very difficult to recruit for randomized controlled trials. He reviewed the International Children's Continence Society's definition of pediatric incontinence, which is the "involuntary loss of urine at inappropriate and socially unacceptable time and place in children greater than 5 years old".
