The Japanese Society of Hypertension (JSH) is a not-for-profit organization that was established in 1978. The mission of JSH is to promote basic and clinical research and educational activities for the prevention, detection and management of hypertension and related disorders. Since its foundation, JSH has had 3,000 members of cardiologists, nephrologists, endocrinologists, epidemiologists, physiologists, chemists, pathologists, pharmacologists, and general practitioners.
The annual scientific meeting of JSH is held in autumn, attracting more than 2,000 national and international participants. Hypertension Research, the official journal of JSH, is a monthly vehicle of peer-reviewed novel information as to the latest scientific progress in the area of hypertension. The number of submitted papers is now dramatically increasing. JSH also supports basic and clinical research, hosts educational lectures, and awards distinguished achievements in the field of hypertension.

Editor-in-Chief: Masatsugu Horiuchi, MD, PhD, FAHA

Masatsugu Horiuchi received his MD degree from the Shinshu University School of Medicine, Nagano in 1979, and his PhD from the Osaka University Medical School in 1984, Osaka, Japan. Upon completion of a medical internship and residency, he was appointed Assistant Professor of Internal Medicine at Kinki University in 1986, Osaka, Japan. He is currently Chairman and Professor of the Department of Molecular and Cardiovascular Biology and Pharmacology, Ehime University Graduate School of Medicine, Ehime, Japan.
In the late 1980s-90s, Professor Horiuchi held clinical and research fellowships in the United States, at the University of Connecticut, CT, Harvard Medical School, MA, and Stanford University, CA. The latter two of these appointments were under the tutelage of Dr Victor Dzau. Dr Horiuchi was appointed Assistant Professor at Stanford University, CA, USA in 1993 and at Brigham and Women's Hospital, Harvard Medical School, MA, USA in 1996.
Since returning to Japan in 1999, he has been Professor at Ehime University. As well as being a Fellow of the American Heart Association, Professor Horiuchi currently holds the position of Director of the Japanese Society of Hypertension. He sits on the editorial boards of a number of international cardiovascular journals.

Kazuomi Kario received his MD in 1987 and his PhD in 1994, both from the Jichi Medical University School of Medicine. He is currently Professor and Staff Physician at the Division of Cardiovascular Medicine, Department of Medicine, Jichi Medical University School of Medicine, Tochigi, Japan, and Visiting Professor at Columbia University Medical Center, NY, USA. His research interests include ambulatory monitoring of blood pressure and pathophysiological information linked to triggering cardiovascular events. In particular, his current research focuses on interactions between the brain and heart in the new field of psychoneurocardiology, and on the development of new technologies in blood pressure monitoring. To date, he has already published more than 250 academic papers.
He is a fellow of the Japanese Society of Internal Medicine, the Japan Geriatrics Society, the American College of Cardiology, the American College of Physicians, and the American Heart Association, and is a member of the Council for High Blood Pressure Research. He has received Young Investigator's Awards from the Eastern Hypertension Society, which is the Eastern Chapter of the American Society of Hypertension, and the Japanese Society of Hypertension. In addition, he has received a Clinical Research Award from the Japanese College of Cardiology, and a Symposium Award from the American Society of Hypertension. He is Executive Editor of Hypertension Research, and is an editorial board member of the following international journals: Hypertension; Circulation Journal; Journal of Clinical Hypertension; Journal of American Society of Hypertension; American Journal of Hypertension; Blood Pressure Monitoring; Current Cardiology Reviews, Evidence-based Cardiovascular Medicine; Expert Review of Cardiovascular Therapy; Renin Angiotensin system in Cardiovascular Medicine; and Current Hypertension Reviews, Recent Patent Reviews on Cardiovascular Drug Discovery.

Dr. Masaki Mogi is an Assistant Professor in the Department of Molecular Cardiovascular Biology and Pharmacology in Ehime University Graduate School of Medicine, Ehime, Japan. He obtained his MD in 1994 from the University of Osaka, Graduate School of Medicine. He became a Fellow in the Department of Geriatric Medicine at the same university in 1994, and then spent 2 years in Boston (USA) as a Research Fellow at St. Elizabeth Medical Center at Tufts University, and the Department of Molecular Cardiology in Boston University. He obtained his PhD in 2001 from the University of Osaka, Graduate School of Medicine. He returned to Japan in 2003 as Assistant Professor at the Department of Geriatric Medicine in Ehime University Graduate School of Medicine. Since 2005 he has been Assistant Professor in the Department of Molecular Cardiovascular Biology and Pharmacology in Ehime University Graduate School of Medicine.
Dr. Mogi belongs to many academic societies, including the Japanese Society of Internal Medicine, the Japan Geriatrics Society, the Japan Stroke Society, the Japanese Pharmacological Society, the Japanese Circulation Society, the Japanese College of Angiology and the Society of Cardiovascular Endocrinology and Metabolism. He is a Certified Fellow of the Japanese Society of Internal Medicine and the Japan Geriatrics Society. He is also a member of the American Heart Association.
